Dover, Tenn.–The newest member of the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office has arrived.
“Borys”, the newest patrol K9 has begun his career with the department. Borys–pronounced Boris–is a 15-month old Belgian Malinois and was flown to Stewart County from Poland last month.
Borys’ handler is K9 Deputy Aaron Page and they both received their certification in tracking drugs last week.
Borys will be used for drugs and narcotics, tracking and apprehending as well as article searches. Borys was purchased with funds from the sheriff department’s drug arrest and seizures.
The addition of a third K-9 to the department allows for every shift to have a K9 and assures that both the Dover Police Department and Cumberland City Police Department also have access to a K9 when needed.
Sheriff Frankie Gray’s goal was to have three patrol K9’s within four years of when he took office. This puts the Sheriff’s Office ahead of that goal by about 18 months.
