Paris, Tenn.–Even a pandemic couldn’t keep the folks of Henry County down. They stepped up in a big way for the Henry County Helping Hand Auction this year and have raised $283,798.40 so far for over 80 non-profit organizations.

Helping Hand President Stacy Hayes said, “We’re just blown away by this. Never seen anything like it.”

Treasurer Susan Bell said, “After balancing auctions and reconciling bank statements, I have a total so far for the 2021 auction!!!! You have raised $283,798.40 to stay here in Henry County. And this was during a pandemic!! You rock Henry County!! And by the way, if you have not made a donation you still can. Books are open until February 28. Is $300,000 possible??”

Bell said, “I have been treasurer of Helping Hand for the past 20 years and am always amazed at the generosity of Henry County. A pandemic could not even stop Henry County this year. Helping Hand is grateful for all the support. This is just the best place to live!”

Even with the changes in format that were necessitated by the pandemic, donations have been pouring in since the beginning of the year for Helping Hand and the organizations it serves, though a virtual auction, as well as monetary donations from organizations and individuals and matching donations from several organizations.

Hayes said, “When our board first looked at alternate fundraising options, we hoped to raise enough for an emergency fund for our local groups in desperate need. I think I can speak for all the officers and board members in saying that $283,000 was not even a dream. We are elated that the virtual auctions were so successful and that people from all over the country have sent additional donations to continue funding local groups this year. Many of our board members, officers and volunteers are not native Henry Countians, but we all agree that there is no place like it. Neighbors helping neighbors just comes naturally here, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Helping Hand will still be accepting donations through February 28 in all formats so the total is sure to grow even more..

Hayes said applications for funds will be available to the non-profit organization/recipients on March 1. More information is coming soon on how to get the applications.
