Defeating a team three times in one year is difficult but the McKenzie Lady Rebels did just that Wednesday night in District tournament action to capture the district championship for the first time in decades.
Playing the Huntingdon Fillies, the Lady Rebels led by one at the end of the first 10-9, increased to 7 at half time 27-20. The lead grew in the third to 50-35 and ended with a final of 68-47.
Lady Rebel Senior and MVP of the tournament Lilly Bennett led the Lady Rebels with 18 points, while all-tournament teammates Savannah Davis and Katie Chesser tossed in 15 and 16 respectively.
The Fillies were lead by Sophie Singleton with 11 and Brooklyn Williams and Addison Postlewaite both contributed 10.
The Lady Rebels, according to some had not won a District Tournament Championship since 1966. Their last regular season district win was in 2006.
