Lady Rebels & Fillies Advance

mck-fillies

McKenzie, Tenn.–The McKenzie Rebels put away Collinwood Friday night with superior shooting and defense while the Huntingdon Fillies came back from a deficit of 12 in the final quarter to win on a last second driving shot.

Both teams advance to the semi-finals of region action on Monday night.  McKenzie will be playing at home once again while Huntingdon will be on the road.

Huntingdon won at the end over Wayne County in a 2-3 seed contest 64-62.  They will play Summertown on Monday night in Summertown.  The Lady Rebels will host Loretto High School at 6:00 PM and can be heard on WHDM 98.9 FM and streaming over radionwtn.net.  Big Sandy girls and West Carroll girls were not as fortunate as their seasons came to an end with losses to Loretto and Summertown.

Subs Payton Ognibene, Kyenna Sneed and Madison Gilbert put on the defense in the last minutes of the game Friday night.
The past weeks snowfall flurries didn’t compare with the flurry of 3- point shots on Friday night for the Lady Rebels.  Dani Dyer, senior guard, tossed in the first and second followed by Freshmen Savannah Davis, Kylie Reynolds, her sister Mikalea Reynolds,  Lilly Bennett and Katie Chesser.  A total of 8 3- point shots in the first quarter would demoralize any opponent.  Bennet would add another basket before the 1st quarter ended and McKenzie would lead 26-9.  McKenzie would add 3 more 3-point shots over the night and outscored Collinwood 25-8 in the second quarter to lead at half time 51-17.  The second half would see the bench cleared for the Lady Rebels as every young lady on the squad would get into the game.   Leading the ladies scoring attack would be Kylie Reynolds and Katie Chesser with 12 each.  Bennett with 11, Davis with 10.  Dyer and Mikalea Reynolds would have 8, senior Savannah Nesbit would have 6 and Briley Auvenshine and Kyenna Sneed would toss in two points each.  The Lady Rebels only had 1 free throw the entire night and made it as well.
