Union City softball, soccer and middle school tennis were all convincing winners in their respective Tuesday competitions.

The Lady Tornadoes improved to 5-0 in softball with a 16-0 rout of Lake County. UC soccer whitewashed visiting South Fulton, 9-0, while the Tornado middle school tennis programs easily beat Crockett County for their first wins of the young season.

Today’s spring sports schedule has the Union City High School girls’ tennis team hosting Greenfield and the Twister baseball squad playing Milan at 6:45 in the opening round of the Final Flight Classic.

The following is a recap of Tuesday’s events:

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

UC 16, Lake Co. 0

The combination of 11 Union City hits and seven LC errors made for big offensive numbers for the Lady Tornadoes, who cruised to a mercy-rule win.

Avery Decker tripled and singled, drove in two runs and scored four times to headline the Purple and Gold attack. Marlee Theobald also had a three-base hit to go along with a single and two RBI.

Anna Lynn Cheatham, Bayleigh Long and Sophie Theobald all doubled, with Cheatham and Theobald scoring three times apiece. Sara Ullrich got in on the fun with a pair of ribbies.

Sophie Theobald gave up just three singles and struck out eight to improve to 2-0 in the pitching circle.

Lake County miscues made 11 of UC’s runs unearned.

UC is scheduled to welcome Greenfield Thursday for a doubleheader. The Lady Tornadoes then will be the host team in the Princess Warrior Classic this weekend with games at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Friday and a 9 a.m. date Saturday morning before bracket play begins Saturday afternoon.

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

UC 9, South Fulton 0

Chandler Adams and Joseph Lattus each recorded hat tricks to lead the Tornadoes to their second victory in three matches — this a district triumph.

Adams found the net three times in the first 12:22, while Lattus scored twice in the first half and then once more after the intermission.

Lattus was also credited with three assists in his monster offensive showing.

Juan Lopez got the Twisters off to a good start, banging home a goal just 39 seconds into the match.

Isaac Mack’s goal made it 7-0 30 minutes into action and Riley Caudill, who assisted on four goals, capped UC’s big night with a score at 30:16 of the second half.

The Tornado defense — led by Jose Godinez — did not allow a shot on goal in the contest.

Union City’s next match is scheduled for April 1 at Liberty.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
