Lady Tornado Tennis Dominates; Baseball Team Falls To Milan

Union City, Tenn.–The Union City High School girls’ tennis team dominated longtime rival Greenfield 7-0 Wednesday at the UC Middle School courts.

The Lady Tornadoes improved to 3-1 with their second straight quality win of the week and third in a row.

Freshman Shelby Bondurant moved into the No. 1 singles role and beat Maura Shelton 8-5 in a highly competitive match. UC’s second, third and fifth seeds — Annie Wade, Gracyn Callicott and Erin Gill — all won 8-3, while No. 4 Molly Kizer, another freshman, won 8-5.

Wade and Bondurant were impressive in the No. 2 doubles match, pitching a shutout, while Gill and Callicott won 8-3 at the No. 1 slot.

Both the Union City girls and boys are scheduled to play at Gibson County today — weather permitting — before playing in the Jackson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Milan 10, UC 5

The Tornadoes dropped their opening game in the Final Flight Classic at Elam Stadium.

UC (3-4) led 3-2 after scoring three times in the third, but Milan put up seven tallies in their next four at-bats.

The Twisters did outhit the Bulldogs, 11-8, led by Will Ragsdale’s 3-for-4 effort. Landon Hauhe had two singles and drove in a pair of runs, Chase Norton had two hits and scored a run, and Mason Reed doubled and had an RBI.

Nolan Chandler pitched into the fifth as the starter and was saddled with the loss. He gave up just six hits.

UC is scheduled to play McKenzie Friday at 6:35 p.m.
