Williams, McMillan honored
as Messenger top players
The Messenger recently selected Union City High School senior standouts Jada Williams and Ben McMillan as the 2020-21 Obion County Prep Players of the Year.
Williams, an Arkansas State University signee, averaged 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds for a Lady Tornado squad that made it to the regional semifinals after finishing as the District 13A Tournament runner-up.
She shot a combined 47 percent from the field and 66 percent from the free throw stripe.
McMillan averaged a team-best 16.8 ppg and shot 36.3 percent from beyond the 3-point stripe and 88.4 percent from the foul line. An all-stater as a junior, he finished a stellar career that included a pair of Tornado sectional berths with more than 1,800 points.
He scored a career-high 35 points against Collierville and made it to double figures in 25 of 29 games while helping UC to its 10th straight 20-win season.
Messenger sports editor Kevin Weaks made the presentations to Williams and McMillan.
