Union City, Tenn.–Union City Middle School and UCHS were both big winners on the tennis courts and the baseball fields to highlight a busy Monday spring sports schedule.
The Tornado girls’ and boys’ tennis teams triumphed impressively on both levels, while the UCMS baseball squad swept a doubleheader from Obion County. The Union City High Schoolers, meanwhile, handed Lake County its first loss of the season.
The following is a recap of those contests:
MIDDLE SCHOOL TENNIS
UC 6, Dyersburg 0 (G)
UC 1, Dyersburg 0 (B)
A shorthanded D’burg squad that brought just four girls and one boy to town was no match for UCMS.
The Tornadoes did not lose a single game in any of the individual matches as Dani Frankum, Lexi Petty, Davey Frankum and Emma Mobbs all won 6-0. Ben Wade, the lone Union City boy to play, did the same in a dominating win.
UC’s two doubles teams of Jamie Becton and Bertie Jenkins, along with Natalie Long and Josie Ross, also triumphed, 6-2 and 6-4, respectively.
Union City’s next match is Wednesday at USJ.

The Lady Tornadoes improved to 5-3, while the boys are now 2-1 with solid victories at Murray.
Both UC squads won three singles matches and swept in doubles play against the Tigers.
Annie Wade won in both singles and doubles play, while Kobe Terrell, Owen Rodgers and Charlton Wisener did the same on the boys’ side for Union City.
The Twisters are slated to host Halls on Thursday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL
UC 7-10, Obion Co. 0-5
Jack Harris and Logan Dawkins combined on a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in Game 1 and the Tornadoes then took advantage of six walks and four OC errors to complete a sweep in the nightcap.
Copeland Chism and Finn Frankum both doubled for UC in the opener and Logan Vincent drove in a pair of runs for the Purple and Gold. Chism scored three times.
Harris was especially dominant on the hill, whiffing seven and throwing strikes on 25 of 33 pitches while allowing no baserunners.
In Game 2, Union City scored six times in the first and led 10-0 after three before the Rebels made things respectable with a five-run last at-bat.
Dawkins had two RBI and both Chism and Tucker Davis scored twice for the Twisters, who improved to 9-6.
Jamarious Abbott and Rexx Dugger teamed to allow just two hits and three earned runs, with Abbott fanning six to pick up the win.
Union City is slated to play at Madison today.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
UC 7, Lake Co. 6
Landon Hauhe came on to get the last three outs with the tying run on base as the Tornadoes held on to hand LC its first loss in eight games.
Hauhe entered in relief of starter and winner Dalton Bone with runners at the corners and no outs. After a strikeout, the Falcons got within 7-6 on a fielder’s choice groundball out. Hauhe then retired the final LC hitter on a fly ball to Kyler Southerland.
UC (4-4-1, 4-1 in District 13A) jumped to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and was up 7-3 entering the seventh before the visitors made things interesting.
Mason Reed reached base twice with a single and a walk and also scored a run and drove in one. Will Ragsdale had a pair of singles and a walk, scoring twice. Southerland got aboard twice and scored a run and Chase Norton singled, walked and had an RBI.
Bone gave up his first runs in three starts, but still notched his third victory in as many decisions. He struck out 12 and scattered 11 hits while throwing 116 pitches.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again today in Tiptonville.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER
UC 3, Dyersburg 3 (tie)
The Tornadoes and Bears played to a draw at War Memorial Stadium.
Marcos Landeros scored twice and Drake Chism found the net once for Union City, which is now 1-2-1.
Head coach Lance Morgan singled out the play of Adrian Crawford, Brandt Huffstutter, Juan Carlos Barron, Rylan Robinson and Woodrow McKinnis for productive minutes and good defense.
Nolan Tucker also had a handful of stops in goal.
Union City’s next match is scheduled for April 13 at Henry County.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Halls 7, UC 0
The Lady Tornadoes could muster only a lone single from Anna Lynn Cheatham and four walks against Halls in falling to 6-3.
The visitors broke the contest open by scoring six times in their final two at-bats.
Five of the Lady Tigers’ runs were unearned, the result of four Union City errors.
Sophie Theobald was charged with the pitching loss.
UC is set to host South Fulton today at 5 p.m.
