Union City, Tenn.–Saturday’s Union City High School football Lift-A-Thon was well worth the (weight) for Tornado fans.
Several members of the Purple and Gold showcased significant gains made in the offseason program by throwing around massive amounts of pounds in the event Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.
More than $6,000 was collected at the fundraiser that drew a number of fans and supporters of the program.
“Our guys have worked really hard in the last few months, and I thought it showed,” Tornado head coach Nick Markle said afterward.
The team maxed out in the power clean lift to wind up ‘Max Week’ with a handful of players recording personal-best lifts. They then ran and recorded times in the 40 to wind up festivities.
Markle reported that two players had squatted over 500 pounds earlier and that one (Carter Bondurant) had likely set a school record by bench pressing 425 pounds.
Union City is set to begin spring practice today.
