Dover, Tenn.–A good K9’s day is never done.
While on what was supposed to be a play break, Stewart County K9 Harry alerted his handler, Sgt. Robbie MacDonald to something in the parking lot at the Detention Center.
His good nose resulted in the arrest of three people, one of whom is from Paris. And they seized power tools, clothing and other items shoplifted from stores in Henry County.
According to the news release from the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday afternoon May 25th while giving Harry a break and play time, Sgt. MacDonald was playing fetch with Harry in the yard of the Detention Center next to the parking lot.
“While retrieving the ball Harry stopped and looked at the parking lot and froze he then looked at his handler Sgt. MacDonald and snapped his head back with his attention turned to a car that had just pulled into the parking lot a few minutes earlier,” according to the news release.
Sgt. MacDonald trusted Harry’s nose and knew that K-9 Harry was onto something. Sgt. MacDonald approached the vehicle as the driver rolled up his window. When he made contact with the driver he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.
The driver had let two passengers out of the vehicle, a male and female subject who had come to get some paperwork left at the Detention Center.
A subsequent search of the vehicle found marijuana, meth, syringes, pipes, a grinder, various pills (no prescription) as well as over $500 of power tools, clothing and other items shoplifted from stores in Henry County.
According to the news release, the two passengers were both obviously under the influence of drugs and admitted to using drugs on the way to the Detention Center. Both passengers had just been arrested for drugs on Thursday May 20th, in Stewart County by Sgt. Goldsmith with the female being charged with bringing drugs into the Detention Center in her private parts.
All three subjects have outstanding warrants in other states. Arrested were Travis Coulter, age 57,
of Paris Tennessee, Johnathan White and Meghan McElroy both from Salineville Ohio.
