American Flags Adorn Fort Donelson Battlefield

ft-d-flags-and-graves

Dover, Tenn.–After many rain delays Friday, Fort Donelson National Battlefield staff, Girl Scouts from Troop 2602 out of Clarksville, and several members of the visiting public helped to place American flags on each of the over 1,500 graves in Fort Donelson National Cemetery. Park Superintendent Brian McCutcheon said, “The sight of so many veterans’ graves decorated with American flags creates a powerful and reverent visual tribute to those that died while in the service and protection to our nation. We encourage everyone to visit and to pay their respects during the Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to all of the volunteers that participated. It is much appreciated.” As earlier reported, Fort Donelson will conduct a smaller Memorial Day ceremony than usual and it will begin at 11:30 p.m. Monday, May 31. (Fort Donelson photo).
