Paris, Tenn.–With dark black billowing smoke that could be seen for miles, some 35-40 storage units were destroyed by fire this morning at TRW Storage on Hwy. 79N, just outside of Paris.
TRW Owner Tony Wade said at the scene he received the call that the business was on fire at 9:10 a.m. He said it appeared that the fire started in one of the storage units. Wade and his wife were emotional watching the fire and fielding phone calls from people whose belongings were stored in units at the business.
Firefighters from the Paris Fire Department, Paris Landing and Oakland Volunteer Fire Departments were called and by 10:15 a.m., the fire had been contained to units that were on the north side of the business.
Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey was on the scene, as were deputies, the Henry County ambulance and members of the County’s Emergency Management Agency.
People who had items–some including boats and pickup trucks–that were stored at the business were frantically removing their belongings from their units as the fire blazed.
As of 10:45 a.m., firefighters were still on the scene.
