Paris, Tenn.–The Tennessee Asian Carp Advisory Commission will hold a meeting this week in Paris to update the public and commission members on steps being taken to mitigate the invasion of Asian Carp into the state’s waterways.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at the Holly Fork Shooting Complex on Hwy. 79N.

Commission Member Monte Belew told RadioNWTN that commissioners will go out on boats with local commercial fishermen to run nets on Kentucky Lake on Wednesday evening before the meeting. The commercial fishermen work for the North American Caviar Co. in Paris.

Belew was the former Henry County Sheriff and currently is the UT Martin Director of Public Safety.

Among other agenda items, Belew said an update will be provided on the barriers that have been placed in waterways to hinder the Asian Carp invasion and on subsidies for commercial fishermen.

He said the meeting is open to the public.
