SARASOTA, Fla. – University of Tennessee at Martin softball standout pitcher Alexis Groet concluded an impressive season in the summer Florida Gulf Coast League by earning All-Star honors.
The Florida Gulf Coast League consists of 10 teams that play a 25-game schedule from June 17 to July 20 with rosters featuring players from throughout the country – including Power 5 programs along with other mid-major talent.
Players selected to the All-Star team will face off against the USSSA Pride from the National ProFastpitch League beginning on Thursday, July 22 and running through Saturday, July 24. Groet was named an All-Star out of the Sun Division.
Groet played for the Anna Maria Aquanauts under 2021 FGCL Coach of the Year Ellie Cooper. Her teammates included players from Alabama, FIU, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Liberty, Quinnipiac and Wichita State.
The Oskaloosa, Iowa native was the team’s top pitcher, posting a 6-1 record with a 4.23 ERA in 49.2 innings of work. Groet tallied 41 strikeouts while allowing just 10 walks.
“It has been an experience of a lifetime,” Groet said. “I played against Team Mexico which was an amazing experience because I got to pitch to the Romero sisters and Nicole Mendes. I even struck out a couple! Just all around, every day I was pitching against big time teams that had rising players. I know pitching against Pride is going to be so cool too.”
Groet recently wrapped up her first season at UT Martin in which she posted a 13-6 overall record with a 1.36 ERA in 123.1 innings of work. She notched three complete shutouts while tossing five complete games. The power pitcher tallied 118 strikeouts and held opponents to a .202 batting average en route to All-OVC first team and All-Region honors.
