NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Tennessee at Martin was one of just 41 NCAA Division I squads to earn the Presidents Special Recognition Award for the 2020-21 season by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Skyhawks joined Belmont and SIUE as the only Ohio Valley Conference honorees on the prestigious list, which requires at least a 3.5 cumulative Grade Point Average. UT Martin combined for a 3.68 GPA during this past season, as eight different Skyhawk golfers sported at least a 3.6 GPA in 2020-21.
During the fall semester, UT Martin boasted 10 UT Martin Athletic Director Honor Roll recipients (at least a 3.0 GPA) – including six perfect 4.0 GPA’s. That number was upped to a dozen members on the Athletic Director Honor Roll in the spring as five different Skyhawks maintained an unblemished 4.0 GPA.
Today’s announcement marks the third such accolade for the UT Martin golf program, also winning in 2017-18 and 2019-20.
Under first-year head coach Austin Swafford last season, the Skyhawks tallied the program’s second-ever OVC championship and seventh straight OVC Team Sportsmanship Award.
