Milan, Tenn.–Paris Fire Department Lt. John Roaten is shown during exercises at the Grain Bin Rescue Class over the weekend in Milan. Members of the Henry and Mansfield Volunteer Fires Departments and the Paris Fire Department participated in the class.
Henry Firefighter Dustin Odom said firefighters learned how to safely extricate a patient from grain and grain bins while remaining safe ourselves.
Odom said, “Accidents happen every year where someone will fall into a grain bin or grain trailer around the country and often ends in tragedy. Grain is like sinking sand and so when someone falls into it then they can become buried alive with just minutes to be rescued.”
Local firefighters participating included Mansfield Assistant Chief Darren Webb, two city of Paris firefighters, and two from the Henry Volunteer Fire Department.
