Paris, Tenn.–Dr. Jeff Morris will present a history of the old Buchanan General Store to the Henry County Historical Society on Thursday, August 5th at the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center, 614 N. Poplar St. in Paris, beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
Historical Society President David Webb said the program will be videotaped for those who cannot be at the presentation and will be posted later on the Historical Society’s Facebook page.  People who live out of town have been requesting it be taped so they can see it.
Buchanan, Tennessee, was established in the 1840s, and the community’s post office was located in the store from 1857 until 1967, when a new post office was built across the road. Morris’ grandparents, G.W. and Jewel Crutcher, were the last to operate the business. Although the store has been closed for decades, the landmark building still stands at 7540 Hwy. 140 E.
Members and visitors to the meeting will be updated on upcoming Paris-Henry County Bicentennial events and a new Henry County History and Families book. Officers and board members for the 2021-22 year will be elected; there will be an update on the antique fire engine restoration; and annual dues of $10 will be collected. Membership in the society is open to all, and dues may be mailed to the Henry County Historical Society, 2316 Hamlin Dr., Paris, TN 38242.
