Murray State To Require Face Coverings Indoors

Murray, Ky.–Murray State University President Dr. Robert Jackson announced Wednesday that face masks and coverings will be required indoors for everyone on all campus locations.

In his message to the campus, Dr. Jackson said: “Face masks/coverings will be required indoors, for all individuals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, in all campus locations, including classrooms.  This includes visitors to campus and applies to all Murray State buildings in all locations.”

MSU officials are strongly recommending that students, faculty and staff be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

The following is Dr. Jackson’s message to the campus:

“Faculty, Staff and Students:

The following is an update regarding our 2021 Fall Semester plans.  We will continue to monitor all COVID-19 guidance from local, state and national healthcare professionals, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and adjust as necessary.

The guidance below requires a great deal of personal responsibility and we need your help, adherence and support as we work toward a semester of in-person classes, student/campus activities and on-campus services and operations.  This guidance will apply to the main campus and all regional campuses and goes into effect on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

While voluntary, we strongly encourage everyone, in consultation with your healthcare provider, to get a COVID-19 vaccine.  The vaccines are safe and effective against this disease and are our best defense; please help us have a good, safe and healthy semester.

  1. COVID-19 vaccines will be available on campus throughout the semester at MSU Health Services.
  2. On-campus COVID-19 vaccination clinics will be held on the following dates:
  • August 12, 2021 – 12 noon – 3 p.m., MSU Health Services, 100 Wells Hall (First Dose – Moderna)
  • September 9, 2021 – 12 noon – 3 p.m., MSU Health Services, 100 Wells Hall (Second Dose – Moderna)
  • August 18 & August 19, 2021 – 9 a.m. –  3 p.m., 1st Floor of the Curris Center – (First Dose – Moderna)
  • September 15 & September 16, 2021 – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., 1st Floor of the Curris Center – (Second Dose – Moderna)
  • Other COVID-19 vaccine locations

Face masks/coverings will be required indoors, for all individuals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, in all campus locations, including classrooms.  This includes visitors to campus and applies to all Murray State buildings in all locations.

  1. Faculty and staff:  If you are vaccinated and feel you are safely distanced from others in your office, classroom, laboratory or work location, you are not required to wear a face mask/covering.
  2. Face masks/coveringsare not required inside personal living spaces in the residence halls.
  3. Face masks/coverings are not required outdoors.
  4. It is important to note, outside of the requirements stated above, that face masks/coveringsmay be worn on campus by anyone, at any time and in any location.
  5. Also, our COVID-19 guidance may change once we increase our COVID-19 vaccination rates on campus.

Healthcare needs and COVID-19 testing.

  1. If you are sick, stay home.
