Printmaking Exhibit To Open At Paris Academy

laquita-tomson-print-tree

Paris, Tenn.–Join artist Laquita Thomson Sunday, August 8, for a reception and artist talk of her Printmaking exhibition from 2 – 4 p.m. at Paris Academy for the Arts. Featuring collections of three printmaking techniques, the show will be on display through October 3.

Born in Corinth, Mississippi, Thomson has resided in the south most of her life, including academic pursuits at Mississippi and Alabama universities. A professor at Freed-Hardeman University since 2006, Thomson is a prolific artist whose artwork has been featured in more than 60 exhibitions.

Thomson’s artwork on display includes cyanotypes, collagraphs and reduction linocuts. Though each printmaking technique differs in process, essentially they’re created one layer at a time.

“Printmaking is a very technical process,” explains Thomson. “It’s analytical and requires thinking in reverse. Sometimes things don’t turn out the way you’d expect, and that’s where the art takes a direction of its own. You just have to let it go to let it work.”

This is an artist talk that art lovers won’t want to miss. Thomson will explain each of the three processes and share insight behind several of her pieces.

The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public at Paris Academy for the Arts until October 3. Paris Academy for the Arts is located at 402 Lee Street, Paris, Tennessee.
