
Waverly, Tenn.–Governor Bill Lee will tour the state’s floodwater damage with FEMA Administrator Deanne Bennett Criswell Wednesday. It will be Gov. Lee’s second visit to the Humphreys County area which experienced catastrophic flooding Saturday.
President Joe Biden today approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Tennessee, which releases federal disaster assistance for the state and flood victims.
Today, the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office announced the death toll from Saturday’s massive flooding has been revised to 18 from 22. It also was announced that the number of missing is now at 4.
The Waverly Department of Public Safety issued the following statement on its Facebook page this evening: “We wanted to post some positive news today. With the efforts of the McEwen Reunification Center that was opened we were able to reunite 139 reported missing people back with their friends and family. As of 5pm today the center has officially closed due to new reports. From this point forward if you’re requesting a welfare check on a person in our city or county you’ll have to call our 911 Central Dispatch at 931-296-7792.”
After Gov. Lee and FEMA Administrator Criswell tour the area, a press conference will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
