After several delays, the Duck River Bottoms in the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge will be closed starting today, August 27th through Sunday, August 29th due to aerial spraying of herbicides.
Refuge officials said it will reopen again on Monday, August 30th. This closure is necessary to complete management objectives in the control of an invasive wetland plant called Alligator Weed.
Alligator Weed is only managed and kept in check effectively by applying water safe herbicides aerially by helicopter.
