Paris, Tenn.–We could all use more kindness right now and the W.G. Rhea Library has partnered with the Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association to spread more kindness through Paris and Henry County, one painted rock at a time.
The Rhea Library Summer Reading Program created a rock garden–full of colorful painted rocks of all shapes and sizes–and placed it at the Atkins-Porter Botanical Garden at 311 Jackson Street.
Childrens’ Librarian Kayla Nation said the kids who attended the program painted the rocks with a variety of designs and positive messages.
“We painted the rocks with acrylic paint and sealed them so that the colors stay bright,” Nation said. “The kids really had a good time with it.”
The messages are designed to make people feel good about themselves, she said.
The idea of the rock garden is for people and children to share them with others, leave them in other public places and paint their own and leave them for others to find.
The sign at the garden says: “Welcome To the Kindness Rock Garden. Take one for inspiration. Share one for motivation or leave one to help our garden grow. Let’s paint the town with kindness.”
