Murray Man Arrested For December 2020 Murder

Murray, Ky.–A Murray man is now in custody at the Calloway County County Jail on a murder charge after his arrest for a December 2020 shooting death.
Calloway County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Benjamin S. Jones, age 40, Thursday night, August 2 for the shooting death of Luis Mancilla, age 53, also of Murray. Mancilla was killed December 21, 2020.
Between December of 2020 and August of 2021, deputies conducted an investigation into the death of Mancilla. On Friday, August 27, 2021, that investigation was presented to the Calloway County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury issued an indictment for Murder in regards to his death.
Deputies located and arrested Jones at 10 p.m. Thursday evening.
On Monday, December 21, 2020, at approximately 12:30 p.m., deputies with the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the 2800 block of Cook Store Trail for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located Mancilla outside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound.
Murray-Calloway County Emergency Medical Services transported Mancilla to Murray-Calloway County Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:33 p.m. by Calloway County Coroner Ricky Garland.
