Paris Man Arrested After Striking Semis On Hwy. 79 In Pursuit

Dover, Tenn.–A Paris man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Stewart County after a pursuit from Henry County in which he attempted to strike sheriff’s cruisers and lost control, strking two semis on Hwy. 79.

George Easley, age 36, was charged with aggravated vehciular assault, evading arrest, vandalism and reckless driving.

According to the press release issued by the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, Easley was fleeing from the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Henry County when he was observed by deputies and Dover City Police driving into Dover at more than 70 mph.

As the pursuit continued, Easley refused to stop and Deputy Caleb Rozet attempted to stop the vehicle, which in turn caused Easley to attempt to strike the vehicle multiple times.

When K-9 Deputy Shane Keatts, with the Drug Interdiction Team, attempted to stop the vehicle, Easley lost control striking two semis on Hwy. 79 near the high school.

Easley was wanted for outstanding warrants in Henry County and was driving on revoked license. The incident is  still under investigation.

Sheriff Frankie Gray said, “Good job by both City and County at getting this dangerous individual off our roads. We’re so thankful that no one was injured in this incident.”
