Union City, Tenn.–Coming off back-to-back impressive performances, the Union City High School Marching Band will compete for the final time this fall Saturday in the Mid-South Marching Invitational at Austin Peay State University.

The “Purple People” earned multiple accolades in contests at Gibson County High School and Paragould (Ark.) the past two weekends after competing at APSU earlier in the competition season. An event at Huntingdon was canceled due to the weather, and the annual UCHS Invitational was also called off.

Among the band’s many superlatives the past couple of weekends were:

4th Place Band in preliminary competition among 17 bands

2nd place Guard in finals competition

4th place band in finals

Paragould

Superior Rating in Band, Guard, and Percussion

“We’ve had great performances the last two weeks,” director Jason Deem acknowledged. “We’ve improved tremendously in all aspects and in every area, and that’s a tribute to the extra work everyone has put in.

“Our kids and our leadership have been committed to making sure we were at our best at the most important time. I’m proud of them and am looking forward to our competition Saturday.”

The preliminary competition will begin at 2:45 p.m. in Clarksville.
