Carroll County, Tenn.–The Carroll County Middle School Basketball Tournament concluded on Monday night at West Carroll High School with a couple of upsets as the top seeded Huntingdon Fillies and Mustangs fell to the Lady Rebels of McKenzie and the West Carroll War Eagles. Both Huntingdon teams were the top seeds based on the regular season competition as action began on Thursday of last week and continued to the consolation games and championship games on Monday night.
On Thursday of last week, Huntingdon girls defeated Clarksburg 40 to 20, McKenzie girls followed defeating West Carroll 39 to 12. In the second two games West Carroll boys defeated Clarksburg 55 to 25 and Huntingdon would defeat McKenzie 46 to 23.
Monday’s action would see a girls consolation game between Clarksburg and West Carroll and McKenzie and Clarksburg boys. West Carroll girls would win 34 to 21 and McKenzie boys would win 53 to 48. The girls championship game would bring in Huntingdon and McKenzie. The Lady Rebels would win after Jaycee Stafford hit 2 free throws one to tie and the second for the lead with just 1.2 seconds on the clock. McKenzie would be crowned County Champions after the completion of the men’s game to follow. West Carroll War Eagles would upset Huntingdon in the final game of the night 47 to 40. Huntingdon would lead at the end of the first half while West Carroll’s Izaia Clark was benched with foul troubles. Clark would come back and score a total of 19 points to lead all scorers and the War Eagles to the County Championship.
