Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Tourism Authority Board unanimously approved funding for two upcoming events: the Tennessee State Kayak Championship and the Mule Barn Steak Cookoff.
The board approved the requested $2,000 for the State Kayak Championship, which is scheduled for October 13-16. This is not the first Kayak Bass Fishing Tournament to be held at Kentucky Lake, but it is the first sponsored by the Tennessee State Kayak Association.
On its application, organizers said the tournament will bring some 120 Kayak anglers to the area for four days. Their total budget will be $14,000.
The Mule Barn Steak Cookoff will be held at the Mule Barn at 600 Scarbrough Lane from June 10-12. Organizer Ken Scarbrough requested $3,000, which was approved. Scarbrough said in the application that 40-45 teams are expected to compete and that there may be as many as 250 visitors for the event.
The event will include cooking fish and music on Friday evening, with Saturday being a full day for the Steak Cookoff. It also will include a kids’ cooking activity.
First place in the Steak Cookoff will mean $10,000 for the winning team.
