Union City, Tenn.–Third-grade students at Union City Elementary School got a chance to “see” what they’ve recently learned Monday.
Local optometrist Dylan Bondurant made a special presentation of the human eyeball and its workings and talked extensively of his profession as part of the CKLA curriculum unit covering the human body during a special visit to the school.
Bondurant, a UCHS graduate and former standout football player for the Golden Tornadoes, had the students’ attention from the get-go while explaining the 14 different parts that make up the eyeball. He also gave details on how glasses work.
The session coincided with a study by third graders of the three systems of the body as well as eyes and ears, and how they are interconnected. The group had an introductory lesson as first-graders and essentially built off those teachings with their current study.
Dr. Bondurant fielded numerous questions from the attentive group after his presentation.
“Our students have been very attentive to this entire unit,” said Clarissa Youngblood, a third-grade teacher who organized Bondurant’s visit. “They asked excellent questions of Dr. Bondurant today, and we were very appreciative of his time and the information he shared with our students.”
