Mayfield, Ky.–Governor Andy Beshear was on site in the West Kentucky counties decimated by the December tornadoes today. In Mayfield, he joined local leaders and Homes and Hope for Kentucky for a groundbreaking ceremony at a now-empty lot where a home will be rebuilt. In Dawson Springs, the Governor also handed over the keys to temporary travel trailers that will provide displaced Western Kentucky families shelter as they recover and rebuild. Purchased through the Commonwealth Sheltering Program, funding for the trailers was made available this month via House Bill 5, which passed unanimously in both the House and Senate and was immediately signed into law by Gov. Beshear. On Thursday, the Governor toured travel trailers that will provide medium-term housing for displaced Western Kentucky families impacted by the tornadoes. “Our goal is to make sure our families have a safe place to stay as we rebuild and recover – we’re in this together,” he said.
