MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rifle team wrapped up their participation in the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship today, landing three members on the all-league squad.

Junior Nick Fares racked up All-OVC second team accolades in both smallbore and air rifle, marking the third and fourth all-league honors of his Skyhawk career (also winning OVC All-Newcomer in both air rifle and smallbore in 2019-20). UT Martin also boasted a pair of OVC All-Newcomer recipients as Alayna Walther and Jesse Chamberlain each earned that title in both smallbore and air rifle.

As a team, the Skyhawks posted 2,274 smallbore points and 2,329 points in air rifle – finishing with 4,603 aggregate points. The air rifle score was just two points shy of a season-high total while the aggregate score was the second-best tally of the season for UT Martin.

Fares delivered a career-best score of 578 in smallbore, leading the Skyhawks in that category for the first time this season. Jennifer Plocinik’s 572 was next in line for UT Martin and was followed by Walther (568), Rachel Sprague (556) and Chamberlain (549).

Topping the Skyhawks for the third consecutive match in air rifle was Fares, who secured 587 points. Walther generated a career-high with 582 points while Plocinik followed with 581 points. Chamberlain was responsible for a career-best 579 points while Sprague posted a score of 576.

Murray State topped the OVC Championship field with an aggregate score of 4,702 while Morehead State (4,675 points) finished as runner-up.

UT Martin will take two weeks off before competing against Memphis in an NCAA Qualifier held in Murray, Ky.
