From State Rep. Bruce Griffey, R-Paris:
“Last year, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation to ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory in classrooms to Tennessee students. This year, TN Rep. Bruce Griffey (R-Paris) filed legislation (HB2313) to take it a step further by banning it in workplaces across Tennessee in both the private and public sector.
“Critical Race Theory is a radical, totalitarian philosophy rooted in Marxism that seeks to destroy capitalism, the nuclear family, the republican form of government, the rule of law and Christianity. CRT proponents are pushing this far-left, woke ideology into virtually every facet of life – not just into our K-12 curricula, but also into our workplaces in the form of ‘diversity training’ mandated by HR Departments at some of America’s most powerful corporations and we must push back against it. Ironically, CRT teaches racism, self-loathing, hatred of our fellow man and our country and divisiveness along racial lines. It seeks to dismantle the Declaration of Independence — ironically a document that was intended to protect us from tyranny and oppression and declared that all men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” explained Griffey.
“Workers should not have to be subjected to CRT trainings that attempt to indoctrinate them to broad-brushed, false narratives like America is a white supremacist country and that white people are raised to be racist from childhood. The promotion of these falsehoods creates a hostile work environment, which is why my legislation seeks to protect employees in Tennessee by deeming CRT training to be an unlawful employment practice entitling an employee to pursue a civil cause of action,” Griffey concluded.
