Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Parks and Recreation Department is looking to start Pickleball leagues in the near future.
With completion of the new Pickleball courts at Eiffel Tower Park, the game has become even more popular locally. With some warm days recently, people have even been playing on weekends and evenings, especially with the new lighting being installed.
If you haven’t heard of it yet, Pickleball combines tennis, badminton and ping pong.
Parks Director Tony Lawrence said a kickoff event will be held, probably in April, which would include a ‘play day’ and introductory classes.
Lawrence said, “Right now, we’re looking to form a league with women, men and co-ed matches. We’re thinking the women and men’s will be played on Tuesdays and the coed games on Thursdays.”
The parks department is also wanting to start league play in the mornings, “but we haven’t been getting much feedback on that.”
Meanwhile, there are some 20 people who Pickleball in the mornings at the Atkins-Porter Rec Center. Lawrence said people who are interested, just need to show up and join in the games.
Anyone interested in being in the leagues is asked to call Tony at 731 644 2517.
