Lyman M. Black, 89 of Paris, died Monday, March 28, 2022, at his residence.
He retired as Vice President of Regions Bank after working many years as a loan officer for Liberty Federal and Union Planters Bank. Lyman was a forty-year faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Men’s Ministry. He founded the Habitat for Humanity Group in Henry County. Mr. Black was a member and former past president of the Lions Club. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict Era. A dedicated family man, he loved his family, and always enjoyed spending time with them.
Born July 4, 1932, in Greer, S.C., he was the son to the late Davis Urias Black and the late Martha Jane Henderson.
He was married July 22, 1952, to Jeanne P. Black, who preceded him in death on May 11, 2013.
He is survived by his children: Ben (Susan) Black, of Lancaster, Ky., Lyman M. (Rita) Black, Jr., of Franklin, Tenn., Susan (René) Kendall, of Paris, Tammy (Mitch) Hobby, of Paris, and Sharon (Scott) Watson, of Murray, Ky.; nine grandchildren: Alex (David) Kneen, Mindy Black, Rachel (Eli) Lessing, Aubrey Black, Christina Lexa, Steven (Samantha) Lexa, Carolyn (Chris) Dalton, Nathan Watson, and Brett (Matthew) Severns; and seven great grandchildren: Daniel Noonan, Emma Brown, Rowan Kneen, Bastion Kneen, James Lexa, Alice Lexa, and Teddy Lessing; and a brother, Donald Black of Greer, S.C.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by five sisters and one brother.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street, Paris, Tenn., 38242. Visitation will be Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with the funeral service beginning at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Trent Bullock and Todd Henson officiating.
Mr. Lyman’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Named as honorary pallbearers is Jim Winchester and members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Cemetery.
