Paris, Tenn.–A Paris landmark is on the market.
The Greystone Hotel, which in its heyday was the fanciest hotel for miles around, is now listed by the Bass Realty Co.
The landmark celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.
At one time, The Greystone housed an elegant dining room, beauty shop, flower shop, barber shop, bar, and lobby with piano along with the hotel rooms.
The Greystone was especially lively during World War II, when Camp Tyson soldiers and their families made it a destination. A jukebox was in the lobby along with the piano and soldiers were often gather around it for entertainment. Camp Tyson was the only barrage balloon training facility in the U.S. and was located a few miles outside Paris in the tiny town of Routon.
The description on the listing notes that it has been a jewel in the community. “It was also the last hotel built in the downtown area. In the mid-40’s The Greystone had been advertised as having 100 Breezed Conditioned Rooms. Locals have fond memories of going to a beautiful restaurant with many attending elegant events being held in the ballroom,” according to the description.
The realty company notes in the listing, “This large historic building has so many possibilities. It is currently used as an apartment building with 10 units constantly rented. There is a large portion of the 3-story building that is waiting to have additional apartments completed. The lobby, ballroom, bar and restaurant haven’t been utilized in many years but retains the elegance of years past.”
