Paris, TN – As the extreme temperatures continue in our area TVA is once again asking electric power consumers to reduce their use of electricity between 2:00 and 8:00 pm today, Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Paris BPU and TVA participate in this load reduction by reducing their own electric usage. The request for voluntary reduction is part of TVA’s plan in providing reliable power.
With yesterday’s temperatures being one of the highest we have seen this year, TVA managed to hit an all-time peak load for the month of June. Despite the conservative operations, the TVA system has not seen a load of over 31,000 megawatts since June 2012. TVA provides power to 153 power distributors in seven different states.
Paris BPU has joined TVA in reducing power consumption by adjusting thermostats in all facilities, reducing lighting, and taking other measures to reduce electricity consumption through the organization. From 2:00 to 8:00 today, TVA is once again asking all electric power consumers – residential, commercial, and industrial – to cooperate in reducing power usage during this critical time. Consumers can also help with reducing consumption by:
- Closing the blinds and curtains in your windows, especially on sunny sides of the home
- Use your microwave or a grill instead of the oven for cooking
- Keep garage doors closed as much as possible
- Turn off the fan when leaving the room
When adjusting your thermostat, if you are looking for a target we would recommend 75 degrees. However, simply bumping up your thermostat 1 or 2 degrees from your normal temperature will allow you to contribute to the overall solution in load stability.
The request for voluntary reduction continues to be expected through the remainder of this week. Paris BPU will continue to communicate daily regarding any load reduction request. TVA and Paris BPU thanks local consumers for being concerned and helping with the greater good of the community during this extreme weather event.
