Buchanan, Tenn.–The Lakewood Schools Parent Teacher Organization received a $3,500 grant from the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation to turn the Lakewood walking track into a storybook trail.
The ‘Trailblazer Grant’ will provide funding for construction of the storybook signs. Once the project is completed, students, families, and the community will be able to walk the track while stopping to read the book ‘Miss Maple’s Seeds’.
Lakewood will be the first school in the county to install a storybook walking trail. The goal of this trail is to encourage early literacy and physical activity.
Amanda Paschall of the PTO said, “We are excited the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation selected us as a grant recipient. Lakewood PTO will begin this project in the spring once funding becomes available.”
