Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Henry County Carl Perkins Center, 24th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Henry County School System and Paris Special School District, would like to make parents aware of a new program this holiday season.
‘Socially Safe’ is a program that is being launched for our community, for kids and parents, Sheriff Josh Frey said.
In the upcoming year, events to educate parents and kids on how to be socially safe while online will be presented by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Department along with presenters from Carl Perkins Center, FBI, former victims of online extortion etc.
Frey said, “The focus is making our kids aware of predators and those who are seeking to sextort them online. Topics will cover Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms and how to navigate those sites safely. For parents, we will show you hidden dangers and how you can make plans to better monitor their online activity.”
According to Frey, “There is a huge surge in Henry County at this time with sexual exploitation involving minors, which puts our kids at a greater risk of contact by online predators attempting to gain photos or videos of our children. We can, together, help slow down this scourge from our community.
“Let’s be safe this holiday season by talking with your children about online safety and becoming aware of who their friends are on social media platforms. We look forward to seeing you in the new year!”
