ORLANDO, Fla. – For the second straight day, Jonathan Xoinis carded the lowest score for the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team as the Skyhawks wrapped up the month of February at the Mickey Mouse Intercollegiate hosted by Bellarmine.
Xoinis tied teammates Jacob Uehlein and Dax Isbell for the best Round 3 score on the squad with 74’s (+2). Xoinis shot 1-under (one birdie, seven pars) on his final eight holes while Uehlein shot 2-under on his back-nine, eagling Hole No. 1 for the second consecutive round and adding two more birdies. Isbell ended his day with a pair of birdies in the final three holes to shoot even-par on his back-nine.
Behind a team-best four birdies (including three red scores on his back-nine), Luke Caldwell was UT Martin’s fourth countable score today with a 75 (+3). Bryson Morrell tallied a 78 (+6) with one birdie as the final member of the Skyhawk lineup today.
As a team, UT Martin shot a 297 (+9) to finish the tournament with a cumulative score of 887 (+23). That final tally ranked 11th in the team standings, just two strokes out of sixth place in a competitive field. The Skyhawks ranked fourth out of 16 teams in eagles (two) and par-4 scoring (4.23), compiling 164 pars and 37 birdies for the event.
Individually, Xoinis placed 22nd out of 91 competitors with an overall score of 220 (+4). The Chattanooga, Tenn. native ranked second in the tournament with 38 pars while leading UT Martin in par-4 scoring (4.13, +4).
Uehlein was just one stroke behind Xoinis with a 227 (+5). The senior from Tullahoma, Tenn. was one of five golfers to lead the field with two eagles while ranking fifth in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.42, -7) and tapping in a team-high birdies (eight).
Up next for the Skyhawks was Caldwell (225, +9) while Isbell (227, +11) and Morrell (230, +14) completed the scoring lineup. Caldwell and Morrell equaled Uehlein with a team-best eight birdies while Morrell paced UT Martin in par-3 scoring (3.08, +1).
The Skyhawks will step away from official competition for the next three weeks before returning to action at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech. The event will take place on March 12-14 at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
