Paris, Tenn.–Paris Board of Public Utility crews, along with crews from Covington Electric System, Murray Electric System and Bolivar Energy Authority, have been working around the clock to restore power to customers following the severe wind storm Friday.
The wind event took down power poles and lines and caused trees to knock out poles in scattered areas all over Henry County.
As of 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Utility Authority CEO Terry Wimberley told RadioNWTN a total 2,700 were still without power. At the height of the storm and immediate aftermath, there were a total 17,000 customers without power.
Wimberley said BPU crews “have faced and still are facing a big challenge with this one”, with the work involving setting numerous poles. As of Sunday morning, there were still 180 separate outages, he said, “some of which will take several hours to restore in a single location. Please understand our efforts are at our very best.”
On Sunday, crews were working in the Puryear area, Hwy 641 South, Reynoldsburg Rd., Hwy 69 South, Skunk Hollow, Guthrie Rd. and many other scattered areas.
Wimberley said, “If customers are part of a smaller or individual outage, they may not come back on when a larger outage is restored. Please keep in mind that we will work larger outages before smaller ones.”
He thanked the crews from Covington Electric, Murray Electric and Bolivar Energy for joining with the BPU crews to restore power to the entire county.
