Union City, Tenn.–Who doesn’t love a good Dr. Seuss book?
Students at Union City Elementary School certainly do.
As part of the annual birthday celebration of Dr. Seuss and the Read Across America program, the week was packed full of reading activities and dress-up theme days at UCES.
Numerous guest readers have visited campus, including school administrators, law enforcement officials, beauty pageant queens, and others from the community who have graciously volunteered.
Those readers have been entertained with the Dr. Seuss classics, including “Oh, The Places You’ll Go,” “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish,” “Fox In Socks,” and “Cat in the Hat.”
Dress-up theme days have once again been popular with students and faculty alike.
On Monday, they were encouraged to dress up in the attire of what they hope to be when they grow up or a college shirt in conjunction with the “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” story. Tuesday, many wore red or blue to keep with the “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” theme.
On Wacky Wednesday, a good many students and teachers wore wacky or mismatched clothes and shoes — some of the attire worn backward or inside-out.
The “Fox in Socks” story encouraged students and staff to wear crazy or fun socks, while hats of all fashion were displayed Friday to accompany the “Cat in the Hat” story.
In keeping with UCES tradition, Kim Taylor’s Pre-K class again enjoyed true green eggs and ham prepared by educational assistant Barbara Brooks this morning.
“Read Across America is always one of our more-popular weeks for both students and our faculty,” said school principal Allison Palmer, who took a turn reading to students. “The Dr. Seuss stories capture the imagination of a new crop of students each year and our teachers enjoy the chance to participate and interact with their classes in a fun way.”
