Lifesaving Awards Presented To Sanders, Whitaker, Harris

Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has presented Lifesaving Awards to Cpl. Jim Sanders, Deputy William Whitaker and Deputy Steven Harris and Merit Awards were presented to Sgt. Jerry Wilson, Deputies RJ Carter and Ben Lowery.

Deputy William Whitaker also received a Lifesaving Award for his actions when responding to a vehicle accident on Hwy 641 South earlier this year. Sheriff Josh Frey said, “Upon arriving at the scene, he noticed the driver of one of the vehicles bleeding heavily from a leg wound. Deputy Whitaker was able to apply a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.”

Cpl. Jim Sanders received a Lifesaving Award for his actions in coming to the aid of Deputy Whitaker. On March 5, Deputy Whitaker was performing his duties when he was bitten by his K-9. The K-9 wouldn’t turn lose of Deputy Whitaker and Cpl. Sanders came to his aid.

Frey said, “Cpl. Sanders was able to get the K-9 to let go but in return received bites himself. The actions of Cpl. Sanders were selflessness and the HCSO along with the family of Deputy Whitaker appreciate his quick response.”

On December 10, 2022, there was a medical emergency inside the sheriff’s complex. Under the direction of Sgt. Jerry Wilson, it was handled without the loss of any lives.

Frey said, “During the incident, Sgt. Wilson along with staff were able to remove five inmates safely from the jail and get the medical attention that the inmates needed. While Deputies Harris and Lowery performed CPR on an inmate Sgt. Wilson and Deputy Carter were able to move the other inmates out of harm’s way and keep calm within the jail.”
