Puryear, Tenn.–Puryear Day Grand Marshal Gary ‘Peanut’ Paschall waves to the crowd during Saturday morning’s parade through town. The day was filled with activities, from a dunking booth that was kept busy all day, live music, arts and crafts, fire department tours, good food, cornhole tournament, and more. The community also celebrated the 114th birthday of Puryear with a giant birthday cake baked by Puryear Lions Club member Emma Walters and shared by everyone while singing ‘Happy Birthday’. Parade organizers gave out four first-place trophies: Best Equine Unit Andrew Paschall; Best Marching Unit HCHS Marching Patriots; Best Float Sons of Confederate Veterans; Best Motor Vehicle Puryear Nursing Home. Lions Club President Matt Wermer said, “Puryear Day was a great event and was supported by so many wonderful area residents and businesses!! ‘Job well done Puryear Lions Club’ thanks for all your hours and days and many weeks of efforts.” Shannon McFarlin photo.
