
Obion County, Tenn.–Dangerous flooding and continued rainfall have created a perilous situation in Obion County, with some estimates of 8 inches of rain falling in a 24-hour period. Obion County Director of Schools Tim Watkins has cancelled schools for today. “Due to flooding and continuing rain and in concern for our students safety the decision has been made to cancel school for today, Friday August 4th, 2023,” he said.
Green Acres Mobile Home Park is being evacuated as flood waters continue to rise and life-threatening flash flooding is being reported from Hickman, Kentucky, to Obion County. A Flash Flood emergency has been issued for the National Weather Service.
Law enforcement is reporting flooding in streets, at businesses and homes this morning in Union City and other areas of Obion County. They are warning people not to drive through flooded roadways.
Union City Police are reporting the following streets are closed as of 8 a.m., with more possible as the day continues:
