Buchanan, Tenn.–The driver of an overturned semi was able to climb out of his rig with minor injuries when his truck rolled on its side in the roadway near Buchanan. The accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. Friday and was one of several accidents that occurred during off and on thunderstorms.
The Paris Landing Fire Department, with Henry County EMS, Henry County Sheriff’s deputies and the THP were dispatched to Hwy. 140 near the intersection of Swor Still Road on a report of an overturned semi truck with possible injuries and entrapment.
Arriving units found a semi truck overturned and lying on its side partially in the roadway. The driver, Leonard Zwelinsky of Buchanan, was still inside the vehicle. The driver was able to climb out of the vehicle and was later transported by EMS to Henry County Medical Center with minor injuries.
The driver said his wheels slipped off the roadway onto the shoulder and partially pulled him into the ditch. When he attempted to correct the skid the vehicle rolled over.
Paris Landing Fire Chief Reggie Coles said, “The truck was transporting dry goods only and no chemicals or hazardous materials were present.”
The Paris Landing Fire Department was on the scene for 9 hours.
