Lugoff, S.C.–On Friday afternoon, August 11, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an abducted one-year-old female child from the Cassatt area of Kershaw County. The child was taken by her non-custodial father sometime earlier in the day. The father is a registered sex offender out of Illinois.
KCSO investigators, SLED agents, and FBI agents immediately began the search for this child. Investigators started the process to issue an Amber Alert. The suspect’s vehicle was entered into our nationwide computer system (NCIC). License plate readers began picking up on the suspect’s location and direction of travel in Tennessee.
Tennessee State Troopers located the suspect’s vehicle in a grocery store parking lot. They set up outside and waited until the suspect exited the grocery store with the child. Tennessee State Troopers were able to safely take the suspect and infant into custody.
“This multi-jurisdictional team work coupled with the latest technology made this infant’s timely rescue possible. As always, we are thankful to our state and federal law enforcement partners. A special thanks to Tennessee State Troopers for closing this case.” – Sheriff Lee Boan
The child has been safely returned to her mother. The father is currently in jail pending a kidnapping charge.
