
Dyersburg, Tenn.–A 20-hour armed standoff with a suicidal person ended peacefully in Dyersburg.
Beginning Thursday night, Dyersburg Police responded to Sampson Avenue, in reference to an armed person who was suicidal.
Officers immediately began negotiations with the individual who was armed with a firearm. The department’s special response team negotiators were called to the scene and remained on the scene overnight attempting to end the standoff.
The negotiations ended 20 hours later when the individual was taken into custody today around 4 p.m., and transported to West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital for an evaluation. No charges were filed.
Dyersburg Police Chief Steve Isbell provided the following: “I am very proud of our team for their professional handling of this very stressful situation. Our officers utilizing their training in crisis intervention, tactics, and our skilled negotiators were able to end the situation peacefully. The officers did an excellent job in containing this situation minimizing the threat. I would like to thank West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg ambulance service for their support throughout this event.”
