Kentucky’s September goose season is now split into a western and an eastern zone with separate season dates.
The Western Goose Zone consists of all counties west of and including Hardin, Nelson, Washington, Marion, Taylor, Adair and Cumberland. The Western Goose Zone season opens Sept. 1 and continues through Sept. 15.
The Eastern Goose Zone includes all counties not in the Western Goose Zone. The Eastern Goose Zone season opens Sept. 16 and closes Sept. 30. A map illustrating the zones is available on the Waterfowl Hunting page at fw.ky.gov.
In years past, the season was from Sept. 16-30 statewide. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission members voted to create zones and split the seasons at the request of hunters who said they would have more productive goose hunting in western Kentucky with an earlier season framework.
All migratory bird hunters must complete the Harvest Information Program (HIP) survey through the MyProfile online portal before hunting.
The daily limit for the September Canada goose season is five birds per day. For more information on the September Canada goose season, consult the 2023-2024 Migratory Bird Hunting Guide or page 18 and 19 of the 2023-2024 Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide.
