Union City, Tenn.–In survive-and-advance mode for the postseason, Union City volleyball did both on Monday.

The Lady Tornadoes fought off a challenge from South Fulton to move on to the District 13A semifinals with a 3-1 victory over the Red Devils.

Next up for UC is regular-season champion Milan in the first of two semifinal matches to be played tonight on the Lady Bulldogs’ homecourt at 5:30 p.m. Another victory would put the Twister girls into the tourney finals on Thursday and secure a spot in next week’s regional event.

Union City (7-13) will carry a four-match winning streak into this evening’s contest after eliminating SF 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-21 in a hard-fought quarterfinal matchup Monday.

It marked the Twisters’ third victory over the Big Red in as many meetings this season.

Gracelyn Sims and Debrionna Jones had big games at the net for the Lady Tornadoes, with 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Addison Carr contributed five kills and a pair of service aces, while Brianna McBride registered three kills and two aces.

Sadie Crawford added three kills to the winning cause, and Crickett Washburn had a pair of aces.

Gibson County and Halls will meet in the second semifinal tonight.
