
Martin Police Department assisted the UT Martin Department of Public Safety last night with an ongoing investigation regarding shots being fired in the area of University Villages.
Reports were received and evidence was located that shots were fired outside of the building. There have been no injuries reported and there is NOT an active shooting situation at this time. A shelter in place order was posted for the campus last night.
Martin PD and UT Martin PD cleared the scene on campus last night and there is currently no threat. The investigation into this incident continues. Last night at approximately 8:28 pm, Officers from UTM Dept. of Public Safety and the Martin Police Department responded to 201 Hannings Ln. at University Village Phase 1 Building B in reference to shots having been fired outside of the building. Officers located several spent shell casings from a handgun in the stairwell on the third floor. The building was cleared by officers and UTM issued a shelter-in-place warning in regards to the campus. No injuries were reported and the investigation continues. UTM lifted the shelter-in-place warning at approximately 1:00am this morning. Both agencies are working diligently in unison to identify those responsible.
