
Kenton, Tenn.–An arrest was made in the arson attempt of the new mural in downtown Kenton. And, the suspect has been charged with other crimes as well.
Kenton Mayor Danny Jowers said in a Facebook post, “I am happy to report that the person responsible for the arson attempts around the mural in downtown Kenton has been arrested and is in the Obion County jail.”
After the initial attempt at setting fire to the mural on December 30th., the suspect returned after midnight on January 1st and attempted to set off more incenary devices and eventually drove a vehicle behind the sign and Kenton Drug company and attempted to ignite the interior of the vehicle, Jowers said.
“There were also unlawful incenary devices found around the downtown area. The suspect will also be charged for the incident which occurred at Karnes and Sons funeral chapel in Kenton on December 31st which again included vandalism and incenary devices.”
The TBI was called in and are the investigative and arresting agency and all information will be released by them.
Jowers said, “I want to again personally thank all involved which includes the TBI, KPD, and the Jackson Police Department also assisting in search of suspect the Obion and Gibson County Sheriff’s Office. Most of all thank you Agent Shanklin for making us all sleep better tonight.”
